This is the best theatre game combination that I have found so far for promoting focus, concentration and listening in the drama class – qualities that I am keen to extol in my students. Each theatre game increases the focus of the group, starting with the fun 1 Duck, 2 Legs, Quack (which is a lot trickier than you might think) and increasing the stakes as the class progresses, demanding more focus, more concentration, more listening and group awareness until you reach the final performance piece. If you are diligent with the opening theatre games – this will be repaid in the playing of the performance piece which, in my experience, was filled with focus, truth, listening, intensity and all the good stuff that we drama teachers love! I have used this book for 6 months now and found so many great exercises but I would definitely say that these are the best theatre games for promoting focus, concentration and listening and the Silent Start performance piece reall makes great use of the focus that you will have created in class. I’d love any ideas of how to add to / improve this combination further. Enjoy!
