One of the groups wanted to use music to create atmosphere in The Atmosphere Game so, we hooked up their ipod and a high octane party in full flow was created! This worked well so, it might be a good idea to have a selection of music available to offer the players or to play it once without music and once with . . . what’s the difference? . . . I found that, initially I had to coach the entering audience (in The Atmosphere Game) to commit to the created emotion and to support their fellow performers; it was a really good lesson on the responsibility that an audience has and the active part an audience must play in the creation of electric, focused theatre (if the audience laughs through a horror scene, clearly, it does not give the performers a chance to create and sustain an atmosphere of tension / fear etc.). Once we’d played the Atmosphere Game a couple of times, the creativity was truly flowing and the work in The Scottish Play benefited from this earlier work. A highly recommended combination of theatre games.
