I am always on the lookout for drama games that encourage my students to let go, to physically inhabit the created world and to lose their inhibitions in performance, this combination of drama games (and, I have found several other drama games from this book) worked extremely well to that end and led to high energy and physically connected work that brought the playing area (and the players within it) to life! Energy Circle is a very effective drama game for bringing energy and excitement to the start of a drama session . . . it immediately involves the whole class and demands that each and every one of them explore the full spectrum of their energy levels in a very short space of time . . . these are the kind of drama games that set the class off on a positive footing and allow for energised / uninhibited work to take place in the drama games / exercises to come. You will see that all the other drama games I chose following The Energy Circle involved physical connection and the giving of energy! My drama group can often be an unenergised bunch but this combination of drama games brought out the very best of them, encouraged them to connect physically, to give and share energy and the final performance piece, 3 Physical Levels, produced some uncharacteristically energised and joy filled pieces which were an absolute delight to behold. I hope that other drama teachers find these drama games and others within Drama Menu of use in encouraging students to embody the joy of theatre.
